SUE ANDERSON ABIPP (Qualified at Associate level and previous Director of the Board and Chairman of Scotland branch of the British Institute of Professional Photography)
Sue Anderson is a long established freelance travel, landscape and cultural professional photographer. Sue has specialised in photographing the wild and remote landscapes on Scotland's Hebridean Islands and west coast mainland from her original home base in Argyll and Coll. More recently Sue has covered vast tracts of Scotland's mainland on commissioned work. Sue has been living and working in Scotland for over 35 years and is married to retired professional photographer, Brian Fair (www.brianfair.islandfocus.co.uk).
Photography has given Sue an extensive travellers knowledge of Scotland where she has captured evocative sunrises and sunsets - dramatic seascapes - people at work in the landscape - the texture and colour of the ever changing seasons - and the dramatic punctuation of the weather over the landscape, all the year round.
The core of Sue's work has been in publishing a range of calendars, postcards and greetings cards. Also, mounted panoramic prints and photographic prints are available from this website and from some retail outlets across Scotland.
The Picture Stock Library is Sue's latest venture which showcases her outstanding work across the country. So much of Sue's photography has been taken on transparency film over the years in panoramic format, and has been scanned and digitised for the library, which will hold a specialist collection of thousands of images in time. It was only in 2008, Sue converted to digital photography which has been a steep learning curve and still does not fill all her requirements. Yes, she has been known to go back to film on some occasions!
Sue is also a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers and a past qualified member of the Royal Photographic Society. She is an active member of BAPLA, the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies, and an affiliated member of CEPIC.
When Sue became an elected member to the Board of Directors of the BIPP, a post which she held for some years, she was involved in making national policy decisions in the organisation on behalf of its members. As Scotland's first woman Chairman, she travelled the country with seminars, workshops and visits to relevant colleges and businesses promoting the craft of good professional photography.
Sue was a founder member and sat on the Board for some years of AIM-HI, the Association of Integrated Media - Highlands and Islands. This trade association was originally set up for those far flung individuals in the Creative Content industry in the Highlands and Islands - the main objective of the organisation was to raise the profile of and promote collaboration between members in the creative industries and their roles in business, community development, education and training, communications and entertainment in this part of Scotland. This mantle has now been taken over by the Highland and Islands Enterprise network who provide staff for its continued growth and function and now narrowed criteria for those in the entertainment industry. Sue joined a delegation from Scottish Screen a few years ago to promote Scotlands film industry at the Cannes Film Festival with support from HIE..
More recently Sue has travelled to the Pacific Galapagos Islands and images are now available, in Charles Darwins 200th anniversary year, on the new Stock Library website.
Sue will soon be working on a book about her life and work in the Scottish Islands - this will showcase her passion for travel and landscape photography and highlight her calendar publications over the years.
Two years ago, Sue was main contributing photographer to the large coffee table book, Spectacular Scotland, for Duncan Baird Publishing in London, themselves contracted by a US publisher. Scotland is one of many countries profiled in a series of stunning panoramic sized books, the series being available around the world. Other titles include: Australia, Ireland, London, and China.
